Here’s the second part of the series ‘While on the Cross… Seven Sermons of Jesus’

4. “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani! My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (Mark 15:34)

It was God’s plan to crush HIM and fill HIM with grief (Isa 53:10). God sent HIS only begotten SON, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. Remember “For God so loved the world that HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, so that all those who believe in HIM shall have everlasting life!” He found us worthy, albeit none of us sitting here deserved to be found so! So much so that HE was willing to send HIS SON not just to world, but also, die one of the cruelest deaths ever in history!

Roughly about 2000 years ago, Love died for each one of us. Yet, while JESUS endured that painful period on that cross, HE uttered seven sentences – each of them was very impactful and powerful – a sermon in itself that could change lives.

Before we get into those seven sentences that JESUS said on the cross, it’s important to understand the pain and suffering that HE endured. Imagine – 6-8 inches of nails driven deep into HIS nails. For over three hours, JESUS endured not just these nails and a crown of thorns, with each thorn cutting deep into his scalp, but the pain from the severe whipping before being hung on the cross. A whipping so severe that it tore through HIS flesh. JESUS bled so much that finally, HE was only pouring water! And amidst this painful suffering, JESUS’ last seven sentences had definitely taught me a lot. Hope it does the same with you as well. I cover this series in two parts. Here’s the first one.
