One was on his way to earn his bread. The other was waiting for a prey. Any prey. The latter found his victim – the former! It wasn’t soon before this guy came swooping down, and before you could say ‘crow’, he was off – with his morning breakfast. A nice and delicious fish! Not a bad deal. Not at all, considering he didn’t have to pay for it. The fish-seller went on, clueless, with his basket of fishes.

The parable in Matthew 13:1-8 about ‘farmer going out to plant seeds’ something a four-year-old Sunday School kid would recite even if you wake him up in the middle of the night. However, there were some deep implications to each of JESUS’ parables, many of which HE explained, in private, to his disciples. He did the same with this parable (Matthew 13:18-23), explaining what each of those four ‘soils’ (for lack of a better term) mean. Let’s look at each of these four soils on which the seeds (Word of GOD) fell and what it means for a believer today. Before we get into that, please note that unfortunately, you could find all these four ‘soils’ in our churches today. Before you start looking around in your church, introspect, search yourself, and ask yourself “What kind of soil am I?”
